Management Strategy Training

One of the biggest issues that we see today in British industry is companies with a lack of an effective Management Strategy - and yet, with a little effort and application it is a surprisingly simple (and very effective) thing to do!

We work very practically and ‘in company’ across the spectrum of business - from PLCs to SME’s and even family run, owner  - managed companies and yet so often we see this common challenge for many in that they often have little or no defined Management Strategy and focus.

Developing an effective Management Strategy can be tackled at a number of levels:

For example, developing a Strategic Company Management Strategy in order to build the future ‘shape’ of your business that you desire is really important. What we mean by this is that there should be a management strategy/plan that is designed and built for your company and then implemented to ensure that you achieve a ‘future’ mix of business that you are aiming for.

The Management Strategy should cater for an ideal level of turnover over the medium term. The Management Strategy should define what range of products/services you will be selling at a future point. The Management Strategy will also be responsible for deciding which types of clients you will have on your books and their profiles. The Management Strategy will also help you select the channels that you employ to go to market with your products and services that you offer. And finally, your Management Strategy should give you all the direction that you need as a business to achieve that goal at the end of that defined period - e.g. five years.

Once you have your Management Strategy in place for the business at a strategic level, then it is all about defining the Management Strategy in a number of other areas:

Have you designed your Management Strategy to address the month by month activities that your team need to take for the business to ultimately hit the numbers that you are targeting in (say) a five-year period?

Have you built your Management Strategy to develop the knowledge and skills of your people so that they are able to perform the activities that are required of the Strategic Management Strategy you have devised? If not, then that needs to be addressed if your company is to achieve the right mix of turnover and profitability.

Once these areas have been defined, then the Management Strategy should focus on engaging your team* and then aligning them with the overall plan – (*and/or building a succession plan for one (!) with the right individuals needed to realise it).

Does your Management Strategy give people a clear understanding of what is expected of them in their role?

Does your Management Strategy allow for the fact that your managers need to let their people get on with the task in hand and give them the opportunity to perform in the workplace that they are in?

Your Management Strategy should be there to support and help individuals during the implementation of their daily work activities….when they need some support and help! And a Management Strategy in place to help them even if they don’t think they need that support and help! Therein lies a challenge!!

It is incumbent upon us as managers and directors of businesses to have a Management Strategy in place that gives feedback in a constructive way to the people that work with us.

In this way, your People Management Strategy will be aligned to the results you are aiming for over a period of time and ensure you achieve the numbers that you have set out to. At the same time, it will drive the behavioural change required of your people so that they are also working towards objectives and what you are endeavouring to achieve!

Finally, there should be a Motivational Management Strategy in place that recognises your people's efforts and their individual activities that they have undertaken which have contributed to the success of the business. As senior business people, it is a duty upon us all to recognise how important celebration of success is and so it is important to make sure you give your people the recognition they deserve for it. In return, your team will really reward you for this vote of confidence and ultimately deliver more business through more effective management/sales/business activities they are working on as a part of your Management Strategy!

If you get all of your Management Strategies right (and please note that this is a continual quest for perfection over time) then, your Management Strategy will deliver in so very many ways for your company and ultimately, straight to your bottom line in a very positive way!

So, at BMD Global, we work very hard with you to ensure that you achieve some dramatic improvement in results for your business by the implementation of some very effective Management Strategies that we design and build together with and for you. Our approach is tried, tested and proven.

Why BMD Global is DifferentIf there is one aspect of leadership that we see managers getting hung up on in many companies, then it has to be in the whole are of delegation!

As managers, we are either ‘too busy’ to delegate - and so we think it is quicker to just do those tasks ourselves, or we're too wrapped up in our day-to-day activities to realise that we can probably delegate a number of aspects of our job to others! - even to contract them out if there is no one readily to hand!

Arrow Right What skills do I need as an Effective Manager?

Why BMD Global is DifferentIt’s not unusual for managers to find themselves in a management role without ever having had any formal management training whatsoever! Surprising though it seems, quite often managers are promoted into a management position because they have been very successful in a previous role (e.g. operational or sales etc). Strange then, that despite this being an entirely separate job - that is, managing people not processes or customers, we never really get to understand what the main skills sets that are required to be an effective manager! We tend to learn the hard way and even then not understand everything!
